The Fondation des États-Unis is a private student residence and cultural center located at the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris (CiuP). Our 267 individual rooms include a small number of artists’ ateliers and music studios. The cultural program, which includes concerts, workshops, conferences, exhibits and films, is open to the general public. We also rent out our beautiful Grand Salon, gallery and meeting rooms for corporate events.
And that’s what it was - 8 months of focused, un-inhibited work and collaboration. It couldn’t have been more enriching.
In September 1995, I made a bet with Renaud Brochard that I could come up with a thoroughly meaningless name for the (at the time) unnamed basement hall, and make the name stick. I thought of the name “Rectangle,” primarily because it worked equally well – or equally badly – in both French and English. Based on what I see here, it appears that I won the bet.
The FEU provided me with the resources to focus, a talented 5th floor community who enriched my cultural perspective, and the opportunity to live and study in Paris.
