Saturday, May 4 @7pm : Performance – Big DbD | Compagnie Love Labo

This performance is the culmination of an intensive week-long Dbd Workshop© (Doing by Doing). The Dbd Workshop, directed by Nathalie Broizat of Love Labo – in artistic residency at the Fondation des Etats-Unis – is a workshop focusing on Performance Art.

Through the creation of living tableaux where performance and life merge together, the Big DbD deploys a contemporary artistic form where dance, movement, space, theater, music, sets, lights, props, and costumes coexist and interconnect with each other. This form of total dance-theater creates an organic performance with visuals, live music and sound, relating to the world surrounding us. Disturbing and visionary, these dreamlike, often very funny performances, combine the absurd, the abstract and the surreal, creating a bond with the audience in the depths of their being, the unconscious, the intimate and the sensitive.

About Love Labo

Love Labo is directed by choreographer and performance artist Nathalie Broizat. She creates a unique style of performance inspired by the 10 years she spent in the United States, including one year as a Fulbright grantee. Nathalie Broizat inherited Rachel Rosenthal’s DbD (Doing by Doing) technique, which she continues to develop both through performance and workshops, while merging it with her own style. Since 2015, Love Labo has been in residency at the Fondation des Etats-Unis at the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris, where Nathalie Broizat develops the DbD Workshops. Her next creation, InstantT2020, for 10 dancers, will be created for the Ardanthé festival in Vanves in March 2020 and previewed at the Danse Dense festival, which supports Love Labo.

Nathalie Broizat

Having trained at a dance high school with René Bon, Nathalie Broizat began a career as a dancer in Lyon while perusing her university education. In 1998, she graduated with a degree in performing arts from Paris 8 University. In 2000, she received a Fulbright scholarship for her choreographic studies at the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies in New York. She spent three years in New York where she developed her solo work and performed in venues such as Movement Research at Judson Church, Dancespaceproject at St Mark, Dixon Place etc. She also regularly worked for the Accidental Movement Company directed by Mariangela Lopez. She then moved to Los Angeles to work with Rachel Rosenthal and was a member of the company for more than 6 years. She also developed her own work and performed in places such as Redcat, Moca (Museum of Contemporary Art), the Getty Center, Highways Performance Space in Los Angeles, the Single File Festival in Chicago, the University of Mississippi etc. Since returning to France, she has been working with Marco Berrettini (iFeel3, My Soul is my Visa) and Anne Rebeschini (HH). She also works for choreographer Anna Gaïotti and visual artists Laura Sellies and Amélie Giacomini. She runs the Love Labo Company in residence at the Fondation des Etats-Unis. In 2015, she received Rachel Rosenthal’s DbD legacy, which she merged with her own work methodology to develop both its pedagogical and performance aspect. She regularly leads the DbD Workshops for professional artists and amateurs, as well as in the humanitarian and corporate context. Her next creation InstantT2020 for 10 dancers and performers will be premiered at Théâtre de Vanves as part of Ardanthé 2020, and pre-premiered for the Danse Dense festival. See her full bio here.
